“We need to reconnect with our audiences, in a really deep and meaningful way - and just saying 'we’re going to open the comment section' is not enough [….] it’s a much different job than most journalists are doing today”
In this episode of the Evolving Media Podcast we'll take an in-depth look at journalism in 2019 and in the future. There are a lot of challenges facing journalists today - financial challenges, challenges from new and unexpected competitors, the challenge of an ever-more elusive audience, and the challenge to disprove the “fake news” checkmark, over and over again. Where is journalism heading, and what hope is there for journalism's survival - and in what form?
Joining me to talk about these challenges and a lot more is Gerald Holubowicz. He’s the Digital Product Manager at the french Liberation newspaper, he keeps tabs on all things journalism and digital over at the journalism.design site and he’s doing in-depth research into the world of Deep Fakes. Enjoy!

"If you’re going to play with VR, you need to ask yourself 'who is the viewer in that experience, what is his or her place, what is their identity - or do they even have one'. From the script writing phase to the directing phase, this is something we haven’t had to deal with before."
In episode 16 of The Evolving Media Podcast, we’ll dip our feet into the exciting waters of virtual reality and immersive storytelling together with someone who knows a lot about that field. Michel Reilhac is a producer, former head of Dutch outfit Submarine, former Head of Film Acquisition at ARTE and a lot more, and is right now the Director of Studies at the Venice Biennale College for VR.
We talk about the hype around VR, how we as producers can know our project is suitable for VR, what the first steps should be… and we also divert to Kenya for a brief spell :). Dive in!
